Powerlifting is a force sport that comprises three events, or disciplines whether or not you will. These include the squat, the bench press, and the deadlift. Like any other sport that requires force training, powerlifting has its own rules, peculiar practice techniques and instrumentation. It takes lots of practice to master proper methods and become a professionally prepared athlete in this sport.

Sport of powerlifting begun in the usa. In the begining there was no powerlifting but something that was called odd lifts. Such sport includes a wide range of heavy lifts, which sometimes included the present exercises, like squat, bench press, and deadlift. From place to place, the rules differ, unless at some point in time the sport as we know it today was formed. From there on, it was famous and accepted widely in USSR, cohesive kingdom and in some countries throughout the world.

In the present day we have more than one federations international that function separately from each other with their own peculiar version of the rules. The international powerlifting federation (ipf) represents the international ruling body for the sport of powerlifting. Some of the well known federations include usapl, raw, adfpf, wpc, wpo, apf and so on. They all fashion their own peculiar rules regarding lifts that are performed, instrumentation that is applied, whether the drug testing are going to be carried out and some other affiliated matters.
Powerlifting involves very peculiar force training, where the goal is to accomplish a greatest or most complete or best possible lift and not muscle stimulation, which is oftentimes the main goal in affiliated sports, like bodybuilding. Fast blinking muscle fibers are prepared using maximal and sub maximal weight with low repetition count. Nutrition is planned around the training to conciliate the essential recuperation and growth of muscles and tendons in the body. Such eating schedule principally involves usage of protein and lots of carbohydrates to fuel the training. Besides original compound movements, powerlifting training includes some supplemental exercises for strengthening queer components of the body. Altho it’s so, the special and significant stress still remains on building power in the main three events: squat, bench press and deadlift.

Apparel that is applied for powerlifting is ordinarily made from strong and durable single-ply (single-layer) polyester material. In addition, powerlifting suits have been made from denim and canvas materials and in multiple layers (multi-ply), which are permitted or not, depending on the peculiar federation that you are competing in. Wrist wraps and knee wraps are applied to protect the joints and tendons from strenuous training and competition and to prevent any possible injuries.

Some of the most prolific professional powerlifters that applied to set records in their time were rickey dale crain, lee moran, ed coan, kirk karwoski and some others. They made the powerlifting sport what it’s today.

Necessary thing is to distinguish powerlifting from other alike sports like olympic weightlifting, bodybuilding and strongman. Persons very oftentimes confuse these sports for each other, which is not that unusual since they all have something in common, and that is training to accomplish powerful lifts and increase force.
